		<description>In the long run diets do not work.  What works is to look at why people are overeating. In my professional experience, eating too much is a way of  coping with &#039;life&#039; and temporarily distracts the individual from uncomfortable thoughts and feelings.  Other people may choose to take drugs, drink too much, gamble, use the internet excessively, or be a &#039;workaholic&#039;, it all stems from a need to anesthetise the individual from their &#039;normality&#039;. What really works is to get to the &#039;root cause&#039; of the behaviour, then it is possible to change it.  Without a desire to change the behaviour, diets are only a short term fix.
